Suggestion boxes to be placed in all ten regions as part of Sexual Harassment Awareness Campaign
The Women and Gender Equality Commission as part of its upcoming Sexual Harassment Awareness Campaign will be placing suggestion boxes at strategic locations in all ten administrative regions.
In Region Four the boxes will be placed at the Georgetown Public Hospital, The National Library, the Guyana Post office Corporation, The Giftland Mall and the University of Guyana Turkeyen Campus and at the Tain Campus in Region 6.
Chairperson of the Commission, Indra Chandarpal during a press conference today said the idea of the suggestion boxes was birthed since many persons have expressed fear of victimization if they speak out.
It is the Commission’s plan to open these boxes every two weeks and have commissioners discuss then investigative officers will follow up. Miss Chandarpal believes this system is worth a try and may be effective.
There are also plans to have several billboards across the country to increase awareness of the negative effects of family Violence in Guyana.
The Commission is working too on improving the legislation and other forms of redress necessary to make persons safe from both sexual harassment and family violence.
