EX-cop, others arrested in high-speed chase
By Leroy Smith
Three men including a former police constable were this morning arrested after they led the police through several city streets on a high-speed chase.
The chase was prompted after the police observed that the heavily tinted vehicle in which they were travelling had a fake number plate plastered over another number plate. The second number plate at this point is also suspected to be fake.
As the police approached the vehicle, they drove away. No shots were reportedly fired but the men lost control of the vehicle and veered off of the road into a nearby trench.
It was then that a search of the car was carried out and the police discovered a 9mm pistol and ten matching rounds of live ammunition.
Two of the men captured provided the police with names and addresses while the third refused to provide the police with any information.
The names provided were Eloy Livan, 28-year-old who give his address as 47 Richards town, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara and also ‘C’ Field Sophia. The other man, a former police constable provided his name was Devon Chase, 30-year-old of Hill Street Albouystown.
The police are presently conducting their investigations to ascertain the origin of the weapon as well as to see who the vehicle belongs to.
