Police officers injured after failing to stop at roadblock

Four young police officers who were reportedly speeding in a Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) motor vehicle have received severe injuries about their bodies and had to be rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit after failing to stop at a roadblock set by other ranks at the Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 06, 2016.

News Room understands that the four officers were in motor pick up PTT 9834 driven by police constable 31-year-old Devon Forrestor while the other occupants were 24-year-old police constable Odinga Wills, 24-year-old police constable Travis Griffith and 28-year-old Police Constable Dorwin Hercules.

According to information received, the occupants were all unaware that a roadblock was set up at the Weldaad Police Station along with a wood with nails being placed on the roadway. Upon seeing this, the driver of the vehicle swerved and ended up colliding with a utility pole.

News Room was told that following the collision, the officers were pulled from the vehicle with injuries about their bodies and were rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital but had to be transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital as their conditions were listed as serious while the motor vehicle was impounded at the Weldaad Police Station where an examination will be conducted.

It is alleged that the vehicle was damaged beyond repairs.

Investigations are ongoing.
