The police in Berbice have arrested two men who they suspect to have knowledge about the death of a Corentyne man whose body was found on a dam at Hampshire Village on the Corentyne  yesterday (Thursday, December 29,2016.)

The two men have been identified as 49 year old Ishwarnandan Persaud and 20 year old Videsh Salima and of East Street Williamsburg Corentyne. They were arrested after police received information that they were the last persons seen with the deceased and at the time they were beating him about his body with a piece of wood. It is believed the men took this course of action after a misunderstanding with the deceased.

Mohan Paul, 49 years who resided with his sister at Hampshire on the Corentyne was found dead at about 13:00 hours yesterday by a villager. He was later identified by family members who called the police to the scene who then began conducting their investigations.

According to a police source, Paul’s body bore marks of violence including bruises which suggested that the deceased was dragged and dumped at the location where his body was found. The body was taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where it was examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival. The body was then transferred to the Ramoo Funeral Home at Rose Hall Town awaiting a post-mortem examination.
