Duo charged with bus park murder

After seven months of investigation, the police on Wednesday charged two men for the murder of Rawle Rodrigues, who was fatally stabbed during a robbery at the Route 32 Minibus Park earlier this year.

Afabia Yanakana, 26 of Hadfield Street, Wortmanville and Akeem Hayman, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and were not required to plead to the capital offence.

Particulars of the charge alleged that on January 20, 2017 at Coral Street, Stabroek, they murdered 34-year-old Rodrigues during the course of a robbery. The matter was adjourned until August 22 and was transferred to Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.

According to reports, on the day in question at about 21:30 hours, Rodrigues of Leopold Street, was at the Demico Beer Garden, Georgetown consuming alcohol but later left.

 

It is alleged that the two suspects reportedly trailed Rodrigues and robbed him. During the robbery Rodrigues was stabbed to his chest and later died. Yanakuna is currently a remand prisoner at the Lusignan prison for a robbery under arms charge which is currently before Magistrate Leron Daly.
