Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll continues to increase following the death of another elderly person who succumbed on Saturday; the death toll is now 215.

The Ministry of Health reported that the latest fatality is a 70-year-old female from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) who died while receiving care at a medical facility. This latest death takes the death toll to 16 for this month thus far.

The Ministry of Health is appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and her family and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;
  • and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
