Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy has urged people to visit the Ministry of Health since there is a small number of the US-made Moderna COVID-19 vaccines available for distribution.

In a short Facebook post made on Thursday afternoon, Dr. Ramsammy said, “We have a small number of doses of Moderna vaccine (sic) which must be used up in a short period.”

He said too that people who are able to get that first vaccine will be administered their second dose in 14 days.

“Get your vaccines. Get it now,” he urged.

No other additional details were provided. The News Room has been unable to gain further information on this so far.

On Saturday, however, the Department of Public Information (DPI) announced, via its Facebook page, that a quantity of the Moderna vaccines had arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA). The vaccines were brought by Amerijet airlines. No additional details were provided and that post was subsequently removed.

The News Room was, however, able to confirm that a quantity of the Moderna vaccines was ordered for staff and some contractors of the Canadian High Commission in Georgetown.

Public Affairs Officer at the High Commission, Roberta Ferguson confirmed that a quantity of the Moderna vaccines are expected but she could not confirm whether the vaccines that arrived on Saturday morning were for the Canadian High Commission.
