Bandit who killed youth in Strathspey arrested with stolen jewellery & confesses to crime

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the brazen robbery and murder of 20-year-old Ganesh ‘Chris’ Persaud, who was stabbed in the neck at his family’s electronics store – Deals on Electronics – on Friday afternoon at Strathspey, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters reported that the suspect was caught by a mobile police patrol and the jewellery that he stole from the young man was found in his possession.

“The suspect confessed to the allegations put to him and remains in custody pending further investigations and charges,” the police said.

According to the police report, the victim was inside his hardware store when he was confronted by the suspect at around 16:30hrs. “In the process the suspect dealt the victim a stab to his neck causing him to receive an injury which began to bleed.”

The suspect then relieved the victim of his gold jewellery and a quantity of cash before he escaped.

The young man managed to exit the store and was assisted by several persons to the Dr Balwant Singh’s Hospital in Georgetown where he died while receiving medical attention.
