A teenager is now dead and his friend injured, after riding into the path of a minibus on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as 14-year-old Mark McKoy of 561 Cinema Street, Diamond, East Bank Demerara (E.B.D).
The News Room is told that the teenager was towing his friend on a bicycle handle when the handle became difficult to manoeuvre causing the cycle to steer into the path of a minibus BVV 898 which was heading in the opposite direction.
The young man who was sitting on the handle observed the impending collision and jumped to safety leaving the rider exposed.
Upon impact, the teen fell to the roadway and was picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre in an unconscious state and died soon afterwards whilst receiving treatment.
The driver, 46 years of Kaneville, Grove EBD, who was given a breathalyser test and recorded no blood alcohol, is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
The minibus along with the cycle was lodged with the police.
