APNU+AFC Councillor jailed

Abel Seetaram 36, of Lot 121 B Woodley Park, West Coast Berbice was today sentenced to 18 months imprisonment after he was found guilty of felonious wounding committed on Nateram Rabindranauth, 54, a vendor of Lot 64 ‘A’, Woodley Park.

The Councillor, who only a few days ago appeared on a Live Television Programme with Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan, was sentenced by Magistrate Rhondel Weaver at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.

The incident occurred on January 21, where Seetaram reportedly used a piece of wood and battered Rabindranauth after he intervened in an altercation involving both their sons.

The man was hospitalized for several days where he suffered a broken nose, internal bleeding, broken hand and jaw.

Seetram was represented by Attorney Harratio Edmonson who asked the court for leniency in imposing the sentence which carries a maximum of four years imprisonment.
