The visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been put off, reliable sources have confirmed.
Mr Modi was due to visit Guyana in December, with a highlight being the commissioning of the Indian Indentureship monument in Berbice to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the arrival of East Indians to Guyana.
At a subsequent Post Cabinet press briefing on Friday, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon confirmed that the visit was cancelled. He told the media that the Guyana Government was informed that the Prime Minister will no longer visit due to domestic issues in India.
