A 58-year-old vendor was killed in a Sunday morning accident at Success, East Coast of Demerara and several others are injured.

Dead is Denise Culley, a mother of three of 89 Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara.

Culley was in minibus BTT 4910 heading to the Bourda Market to ply her trade when the speeding driver lost control, crashed into the median in the center of the road and toppled several times before coming to a halt on the other side of the road.

News Room understands that one of the rear tyres of the minibus suffered a blow out prior to the accident.

As the bus toppled, Culley’s body was left hanging from a window and one of her arms and other body parts were severed.

Her sister Avril Pitt told News Room that she received a call from someone who informed her that her sister was in an accident. Pitt said her sister had only minutes ago joined the Route 44 bus.

When News Room arrived at the scene, blood stains can be seen from the center of the road to the northern side, following the path of the minibus.

Pitt also said that when the police arrived on the scene, the driver escaped and another person reportedly identified himself as the driver and was taken into custody.

The other passengers were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are being treated for various injuries.
