    A 77-year-old man who was attacked and badly beaten in his home a month ago succumbed to his injuries at the New Amsterdam Hospital on Friday evening.

    Guildford Goodchild of Lot 53 Alness Village, Corentyne Berbice spent the last month battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following the attack on May 09, 2019 at his home.

    He received injuries to his face and abdomen from two armed bandits who stormed into his home demanding cash and jewellery.

    The man’s wife 71- year -old Kaymeah Goodchild was also beaten and hospitalized. She was treated by doctors at the Port Mourant hospital and sent away the following day.

    The couple’s grandson Erwin Scarville, 29, who was at home, recalled being awakened by loud cries of help from his grandmother, however, as he exited his room to investigate he was confronted by the armed men who held him at gunpoint and beat him also.

    The men subsequently escaped with $5,000.

    During the investigation, several persons were held by the police for questioning and later released. When contacted a senior Police source could not indicate whether anyone was still being treated as a suspect.
