Update: Businesswoman robbed of $1.3M, $600,000 in jewellery
Three armed bandits who attacked an Indian national in her Austin Street, Campbellville Georgetown home Wednesday managed to cart off a total of $1.3M and some $600,000 in jewellery.
Baljinder Kaur, 48, was at home with her maid Dolly Samaroo when the three young men scaled her fence, held her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her if she refused to hand over the cash and valuables.
She told the News Room that her husband withdrew the money on Tuesday from the bank to purchase supplies for a house they are constructing.
Kaur and her husband, who is also from India, have been residing in Guyana for the past ten years and are involved in the trading business.
Surveillance footage shows when the three armed men scaled the woman’s fence and then calmly walked away towards the Kitty railway line at around 10:00hrs after attacking and robbing her.
The maid said she was in the kitchen washing dishes when the robbery occurred.
Residents in the area were in shock and had no idea that the woman was robbed until she raised an alarm.
