A 39-year-old man of Lot 5 Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice was on Monday morning found dead in his car in the Demerara River.
Police said it appears as though the driver, Umdut Jagnit, drove his white Toyota 192 motor car #PHH 5423 off of the wharf at Timheri, East Bank Demerara.
A security guard residing at the Timehri told investigators that at around 04:30hrs, several persons alerted him to the fact that there was a motor car in the river.
Police responded promptly to the scene and the vehicle was removed.
Jagnit was found in the back seat and the seat belt to driver’s seat was wrapped around his left foot. There were no marks of violence seen on the body.
The body is presently at Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination as investigation continues.
