Residents of Herstelling on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) have complained of being without water for several days as a result of a major breakage of the water company’s network.

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) reported that the breakage occurred as a result of drainage works in the area and repairs are expected to be completed by the end of Tuesday.

Public Relations Officer of GWI Leana Bradshaw told the News Room it was discovered that a 12-inch main nearby the Haags Bosch dumpsite and another four-inch main were broken but these have since been fixed.

However, according to Bradshaw, the water flow and pressure parameters indicate there was another large breakage in the network, which was found late Monday.

“It was a breakage to a 6-inch line, which the team is currently working to repair. This is expected to be fixed during the course of today,” she noted.

Bradshaw said residents on the public road may get some relief Tuesday but the GWI team will continue scouring the area for additional breakages. In many of the areas, vegetation had to be cleared to get to the breakages.

GWI is urging persons to report any breakage in its main as early as possible.
