Miner dies in early boat accident, other injured

 A 25-year-old miner died early Tuesday after the boat he was in collided with a tree.

Dead is Renny France of Grant Friendship Canal, Lower Pomeroon River.

The accident occurred between 00:05hrs and 01:00hrs Tuesday. According to reports the wooden boat was being driven by another miner, 27-year-old Dennon Lyte who was injured in the accident.

Lyte and France were heading home from the Pomeroon River into the Friendship Canal when they reportedly collided with a tree. The impact pitched them out of the boat and sustained injuries about their bodies.

They were rescued by public spirited persons and taken to the Oscar Joseph District Hospital where France was pronounced dead on arrival.

Lyte is a patient at the hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.
