Security Guard found dead at Tuschen Lumber Yard

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 42-year-old Mohamed Zaheer, a security guard, whose body was found floating in a trench at his place of employment – the Krishna Mangal and Sons Lumber Yard located at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

The News Room understands that the father of three was discovered by an employee who showed up for work at the Lumber Yard at around 07:15hrs Wednesday.

Zaheer, who resided in Zeelugt, left for work at about 16:30hrs Tuesday.

His wife, Monica Surujnarain is in shock over his death.

“This morning I heard he died, I didn’t believe but when I go myself he was dead,” the woman told News Room.

The Lumber Yard is owned and managed by four brothers including Brian Mangal who told the News Room that from the surveillance video, it appears as if the security guard went to use the washroom at the corner of the trench and fell overboard at around 22:40hrs.

Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean told the News Room that the body was examined and pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

The Commander said the body showed no marks of violence.
