A 65-year-old Brazilian gold miner, Taburcio Valeriano De Andrade was killed Sunday after he got stuck between one of his Jet 4 cylinder engines. The incident occurred at about 08:00hrs at Oku Backdam along the Cuyuni River.

Police Headquarters reported that the miner was working in his mining pit when he attempted to jump over the engine and his pants got stuck on the fan of the engine.

His right leg was then sucked in, completely severing the leg just above the knee which made him unconscious. Workers managed to turn off the engine and took Mr De Andrade back to the mining camp where he subsequently died.

The body was transported to Georgetown and is at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting an autopsy.

Police investigations are ongoing.
