APNU+AFC Gov’t paid Climate Change Consultant over $1.2 million monthly

The National Assembly learned on Monday that the former APNU+AFC government had hired and was paying a consultant some USD$6000 per month, amounting to over GYD$1.2 million.

The Consultant who is still employed and being paid and works out of the Policy Management Office within the Ministry of the Presidency, now Office of the President.

Resolved into the Committee of Supply, to consider the 2020 Estimates of Expenditure, Minister of Governance and Parliamentary Affairs Gail Teixeira was at the time providing clarity on government spending for the period January – September 2020.

This covers the period that the APNU+AFC was in government (January – July) and the three month transition period for the PPP government (August – October).

Teixeira, who did not name the person, said the Consultant, a male, was dealing with matters relating to climate change.

She said it is a situation that the PPP government inherited when it took office in August 2020.
