A 32-year-old cane harvester who stabbed his young wife to death in their bed on Friday last, appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with the capital offence of murder.
Taijram Rahim was not required to plead to the charge, which alleged that he stabbed 28-year-old Amrita Rahim on November 13 at his Rosignol, West Bank Berbice house.
He was remanded to prison by Magistrate Peter Hugh until December 29, 2020.
The News Room had reported that the couple and their three children had just arrived home from a relative’s birthday party when an argument ensued over allegations of infidelity.
Reports indicate that the young mother threatened to leave the house when Rahim went into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed her to the left side chest while she was lying on the bed.
The couple’s eldest child, age 11, after realising what occurred, raised an alarm and other relatives who live in the same yard, ran to Amrita’s aid.
She was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman leaves to mourn her children ages 11,10 and 8.
A post mortem examination, which was conducted on Monday, found that she died from a puncture to the heart due to a stab wound.
What a loser…….capital punishment is simply not that bad in a case like this.
