Bandits on Tuesday night slashed a 40-year-old labourer to his face with a knife and robbed him of his $27,000 Alcatel cellphone at Old Road La Retraite, West Bank Demerara.

John Benjamin received injuries under his chin; he was treated at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Police, in a statement, noted that the incident occurred at around 20:30h while Benjamin was sitting under a shed on the La Retraite public road.

It is alleged that two male approached him and enquired about someone named “Devon”; in response, Benjamin said he does not know anyone by that name.

One of the suspects then grabbed him by the neck and pulled the phone out of his hands; the victim tried to resist when the other bandit took out a knife and slashed him under the chin.

Both suspects then ran to a waiting silver/grey spacio car nearby which then sped off towards the La Grange direction.

The victim managed to raise an alarm and was escorted to the Wales Police Station where a report was made.
