Guyanese Chelsea Edghill was on Thursday afternoon knocked out of the Latin American Singles and Mixed Doubles Table Tennis championship, a qualification event for the Tokyo Olympics.

Edghill, who earlier on the day defeated Leyla Gomez of Paraguay 4-1, lost 4-2 to Mabelyn Enriquez of Guatemala in the Round of 16.

After Enriquez won the first set 11-8, Portugal-based Edghill levelled the contest with an 11-2 win, before Enriquez surged ahead with 11-8, 11-6 victories in the ensuing sets.

Edghill won the fifth set 11-6 to stay alive, but Enriquez would secure her passage to the next round with an 11-8 scoreline.

Edghill will now shift her attention to the Mixed Doubles, as she partners compatriot Shemar Britton.
