The popular Good Life Chinese Supermarket at Bagotsville, West Bank Demerara was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.
Reports indicate that the blaze started sometime after 5:00 hrs.
When the News Room arrived on the scene at 09:00 hrs, firefighters were still attempting to dose pockets of fire in the lower flat of the building.
The owner of the building, 67-year-old Herman Faria, said he received a call at around 7:00 hrs informing him of the fire.
Faria said he was told that the fire originated in the upper flat of the building that was being rented by a Chinese couple.
Eyewitnesses reported that the couple sustained some minor injuries as they attempted to escape from the building. Investigations are continuing.
