Police are investigating the cause of death of 49-year-old Onkar Singh whose body was found on Monday morning, hours after he reportedly stabbed his 26-year-old girlfriend Omela Singh.

Onkar was on the run after Sunday beating and stabbing Singh, who lived at Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD). The woman eventually succumbed to her injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police reported that Onkar contacted his son following the stabbing incident, and told him that he had killed Omela. The man, reportedly, told his son that he was going to the Canal No. One Conservancy to end his life. Police are yet to ascertain if he died by suicide.

Several checks by police officers on the said day proved futile but the suspect’s abandoned motorcar was found at the Conservancy.

On Monday, however, as checks were made around the said area, a male body was found lying motionless in the conservancy.

Police reported that no marks of violence were seen on the exposed parts of the body.

Singh was subsequently taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead. The man’s body is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting an autopsy.

Following the discovery of the body, the police force said that it has since launched an investigation surrounding the circumstances of the death.
