Old grievance over woman ends in death

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the murder of a Barnwell North, Mocha East Bank Demerara man which occurred on Thursday night.

Dead is 28-year-old Paul Braithwaite who was stabbed to death at Pepper Hill, Mocha at around 23:30hrs.

According to the police, Braithwaite and the suspect are known to each other and were friends up until September 2020 when they had a misunderstanding over a girl and would periodically get into heated arguments.

On Thursday night, they were both hanging out at Arcadia Street Mocha when they got into a heated argument; police said they both brandished knives and stabbed each other several times.

Police said as Braithwaite was fleeing the scene, he collapsed on the western side of the road.

The suspect then ran to the Mocha Police Outpost and reported the incident; he was arrested and based on his injuries, he was escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was seen by a doctor on duty, treated and sent away.

“A party of police responded to the said report and upon arrival, they found the victim with several suspected stab wounds about his body.

“The body was then escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival and subsequently transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral home awaiting post mortem examination,” the police report noted.
