UPDATE: Woman killed by ex-lover was attacked recently; relatives say police report was made

Two months after leaving her matrimonial home and the turbulent relationship she shared with her husband, 25-year-old Cindy Ramchandar of No.47 Village, East Berbice, Corentyne was stabbed to death by the man on Monday.

Ramchandar was on her way to visit a relative on her electric scooter when Ganpat attacked and stabbed her multiple times before escaping.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 hrs. Police sources told the News Room that the victim sustained more than three stab wounds about her body and was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Ramchandar’s cousin, Yadkumar Sagadawyen called ‘Satesh’ of Blackbush Polder told police that the victim and the suspect got married over a year ago and had been living with his parents at Cumberland, East Canje Berbice.

However, just about two months ago, they began experiencing marital issues and Ramchandar decided to leave. She moved to her aunt’s home in No.47 Village, Corentyne.

The aunt, Anita Thribowan, told reporters that her nephew’s daughter, a 3-year-old, would usually stay at the house as well and the mother of the child called Ramchandar to bring the toddler to her home, a few houses away.

Thribowan said Ramchandar left with the scooter to take the child to her mother.

Shortly after she received information that her niece was stabbed.

The aunt disclosed that she immediately ran out and met up with Ramchandar’s sister who told her that Ganpat confronted the woman and stabbed her.

Thribowan said that Ramchandar had told her mother that the suspect was “too mean” and that she was experiencing problems in the marriage. She then made the decision to leave two months ago.

“She meet very tough time with this bai and he parents them she does complain to her mom about everything, that’s why she mommy bring she back here before them do she anything,” Thribowan disclosed.

She stated that the suspect worked on a ship but opined that he may have returned a few days ago unknowning to his wife. Relatives believe the attack was informed and premeditated.

“…because he was waiting at the health centre and when she come out, he knock she off the bike and stab she.”

The man made good his escape in a car.

News Room was also told that the suspect attacked Ramchandar two months ago with a knife and she had sustained injuries to her arms after she tried fending him off. Thribowan said the matter was reported to the police but Ganpat was never arrested.
