The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will encamp 17 boxers for the upcoming Caribbean Schoolboys and Girls Junior Championships to be staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from August 26 -28.

Boxers from The Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Lucia will travel to Guyana for the fifth edition of the tournament.

In an invited comment, GBA President, Steve Ninvalle, indicated, “It is a tournament the Caribbean really needs as it helps them gauge the development of their nursery department”.

Ninvalle further revealed that due to the pandemic, some Caribbean counterparts now have a depleted pool of young amateur boxers as many found other interests during the period.

However, the  GBA is confident in their ability to perform well given they had constant tournaments, namely the Mike Paris Under-16 sponsored by Pepsi.

At the last event in 2019, Guyana won eight gold medals and three silver, while Trinidad won two gold and St. Lucia one at the action-packed three-day event.

Encampment squad: Shawn Sabola, Matthew Thomas, Travis Sancho, Joshua Tambaran, Arlington Johnson, Jahuan Haniff, Markel Blue, Garvel Hyman, Malachi Greenidge, Tequan Sampson, Seon Grahman, Shaquan James, Dwane Baptiste, Eon Bancroft Jr., Kendel DeMonic, Jeremiah Duncan, Yusdiel Gala.
