BREAKING: President announces 8% retroactive salary increase for public servants

President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Thursday announced an eight per cent salary increase for Guyana’s public servants that will be retroactive to January 2022.

The Head of State said this during a live address from State House, his official residence.

That means that when salaries for December are paid, all public servants, teachers, members of the disciplined services constitutional office holders and government pensioners will receive the increase.

The amount was set aside since Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh presented the 2022 National Budget in January, President Ali said.

He reminded the public that this increase joins numerous other inventions including cash grants and tax cuts provided to Guyanese already. He also announced that other salary adjustments for public sector employees will be announced in the new week.

    My hat goes out to our to his Excellency, President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali for making this announcement. May God in his goodness continue to bless you and your entire family. I am a retired Public Servant therefore I would not benefit from the increase but I feel happy for those who are eligible.
