An accident between a motorcycle and a car on the No.79 public road, Upper Corentyne, Berbice, on Saturday night resulted in the death of a 26-year-old old man while his friend is hospitalised with injuries to the back.
Dead is Vickram Basdeo of No.71 Village, Upper Corentyne, Berbice; the injured man has been identified as Luvendra Dhanraj, 22, of Section ‘A’ No.81 Village.
The News Room understands that Basdeo was speeding on his his motorcycle with Dhanraj as his pillion rider along the western drive lane when he reportedly lost control and crashed into motorcar HC 9047, which was heading in the opposite direction.
Basdeo and Dhanraj were both taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where Basdeo was pronounced dead.
Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed that the 22-year-old driver of the car is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
