The Fort Ordinance Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) was in the wee hours of Thursday morning broken into, with thieves carting off $1.3 million in cash, tractor keys and a cheque book. This was confirmed by the NDC’s Chairman Roy Jafarally.

Jafarally disclosed that the incident took place at approximately 03:00 hrs. He said based on information provided to him, the former Overseer, Godfrey Evans, who lives next door to the NDC, had just retired to bed after arriving back home from the airport when he heard a loud banging.

Afraid, Evans said he did not check to see what the sound was but once it had eased, he went over to check with the security.

“…after he (Evans) went over to the NDC he was told by the guard that a gunman had him inside of the guard hut and one went upstairs, and he subsequently called the overseer and the police…” Jafarally said.

When the overseer arrived, she discovered that the lock to her office was breached and the canister in which cash and other important valuables are kept was also opened and everything was taken from it.

The guard claimed that the two bandits came on bicycles, with one carrying a gun.

Jafarally revealed that $1.2 million in cash was meant to pay part-time workers today.

“…it arrived yesterday, and notice was given yesterday to part-time workers to come at 9:00 to pick up.”

He also disclosed that approximately $141,000 in taxes and stipends for councillors were also stolen from the canister.

Police are investigating.

I am not accusing anyone because he who does so must prove however it would be destitute of merit to think of someone form ‘mars’ involved in this as in my view that would not the evidencial weight.
