Commissioner of Police (ag) Clifton Hicken on Thursday said more vehicles are being bought for the Guyana Police Force even as he reported a reduction in the number of accidents involving police ranks driving force vehicles.

With 47 4x4s recently procured, the Top Cop said another 30 such vehicles will be in the possession of the Police Force within the next two months.

“This in itself will help the public when they come to the station.

“We are striving to achieve all stations equipped with vehicles,” the Police Commissioner said as he reported on the successes and challenges of the GPF over the last year during the opening of the Annual Officers’ Conference.

And on top of that, plans have intensified to establish an aviation unit.

“That will bring us on par with our other counterparts in the region and further afield,” Hicken added.

He said the aim is to increase the overall transportation fleet of the GPF.

“The more vehicles we maintain, the more operationalised the police force will be and we are paying special attention to that,” the Top Cop added.

He said the reduction in accidents can be credited to the systems the GPF’s leadership has put in place.
