Defending champions Gujarat Titans are guaranteed a top-two finish in the League phase of the Indian Premier League after a 34-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 62 in Ahmedabad on Monday.

Their ninth victory in 13 games took Hardik Pandya’s men to 18 points and further strengthen their position at the top of the table.

Opener Shubman Gill struck 101 off 58 balls and Sai Sudharsan made 47 off 36 as Titans posted 188-9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for Sunrisers with 5-30.

In reply, Sunrisers stumbled to 59-7 by the ninth over and it took some fight for them to bat out the 20 overs. Thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s 64 off 44 and Bhuneshwar’s 27 off 26, they reached 154-9 when the overs finished.

Indian seam pair Mohammed Shami took 4-21 and Mohit Sharma 4-28.

The defeat was Sunrisers’ eighth in 12 games, and see them remain in ninth position on the 10-team table.

IPL action continues on Tuesday with third place Mumbai Indians facing fourth place Lucknow Super Giants from 10:00h in Lucknow.
