Hours before members of the Disciplined Forces go to the polls to vote at this year’s Local Government Elections (LGE), the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) is urging them to “think carefully” before casting their ballots.

At a press conference on Thursday at the PPP/C’s Freedom House Headquarters on Robb Street, Jagdeo, referencing a November 10, 2018 article by Demerara Waves, reminded the Disciplined Forces of when the main Opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in 2018 accused them of being bribe takers because they accepted a bonus from the PPP/C.

Jagdeo said the PPP/C has kept its commitment of restoring the one-month tax-free bonus to the Disciplined Forces.

“We kept our promise to the Disciplined Forces of the country. Today, $1.3 billion…that is what the Disciplined Forces get now that they would not have gotten had APNU been in power.

“For those of them who are voting tomorrow, I urge them to support a party that looks out for their welfare and that has kept their promise to them…a party that didn’t see them as bribe takers,” Jageo said.

Members of the Disciplined Forces include ranks of the Police Force, Defence Force, Fire Service, and Prison Officers; they will vote on Friday, June 02, ahead of the June 12, 2023 elections.
