Herstelling man found with over 23lbs of cocaine worth $10.6M

Permanand Persaud also known as Jason, 32 years of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara was arrested by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Thursday after he was found with cocaine.

In a statement, the agency explained that an operation was conducted at the Young Professional Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) where they intercepted a motor car bearing registration number PVV 4385, with the suspect.

A subsequent search of the motor car in the presence of the suspect revealed nine brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine.

CANU said Persaud was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic.

The narcotic tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately 23 lbs. (about 10.52 kg) with a street value of approximately  $10.6 million.

Investigations are ongoing.
