Cop hospitalised after crashing into truck

A Police Constable is hospitalised in a serious condition after the vehicle he was driving collided with a truck early Saturday morning at the #72 Public Road, Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne).

Police Headquarters reported that the rank has a fractured right hand and is nursing head injuries.

It was noted that the constable was driving Police pickup vehicle (#PAE 1659) south along the eastern driving lane. The 39-year-old driver of the truck (#GLL 2841) alleged that the constable drove onto the western driving lane and upon seeing this, he swerved to avoid colliding with the force vehicle.

Despite his effort, the Police vehicle collided with the right side cab of the truck. There were 15 other occupants in the truck at the time and two other ranks inside the Police vehicle.

As a result of the collision, the driver, two occupants of the Police vehicle, the truck driver and occupants of the truck received injuries.

They were taken to Skeldon Public Hospital for treatment. One of the two injured ranks was treated and sent away, while the other was kept at the hospital for observation.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Police vehicle was treated at the Skeldon Public Hospital for a fractured right hand and head injuries.

He was later referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he received further treatment for his injuries and was later admitted as a patient.

Investigations into the accident continue.

    Speeding or drunk ? And they, the Police keep harping on John Q. Public’s driving habits that cause accidents and deaths, damage to public property ( this police truck), which the driver must pay for.
