‘Rasta Man’ remanded for murder of labourer

Chief Magistrate (ag), Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Monday remanded Dillon Frank, known as ‘Rasta Man’ and ‘Buggaz’ to prison for the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old labourer.

Frank of South Sophia, Georgetown, was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on October 7, 2023, at Longden and Croal Streets, Georgetown, he murdered Mark Hilliman.

He was represented by attorney-at-law Patrice Henry; Frank was remanded to prison until November 21, 2023.

The Police had reported that Hilliman of McDoom, East Bank Demerara, and Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was stabbed at about 22:00 hrs on the date in question.

According to the Police report, Frank allegedly went to the KFC outlet at Water Street, at around 21:35 hrs. Hilliman’s reputed wife, 28, works there and was on duty when the suspect, who is not known to her, started interfering with her.

At the said time, Hilliman also went to visit his wife and observed the situation. He then allegedly told Frank to desist from interfering with his wife. An argument ensued between the two men, each of whom was armed with a knife.

The men left the outlet and went to Longden and Croal Streets where Frank reportedly stabbed Hilliman on his left side chest.

The injured man walked a short distance before he collapsed, while Frank escaped on foot with the knife. Hilliman was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Based on CCTV footage, Frank was subsequently apprehended after cutting off his locks in an attempt to alter his appearance.
