Multimillion dollar facilities near completion to improve policing in Regions 5 & 6

State of the art facilities aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Guyana Police Force are near completion at Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) and Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne).

On Friday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Andre Ally went to the site of the newly constructed Guyana Police Force IT Training Complex and the Rose Hall Police Station valued at over $80 million and $70 million, respectively.

In Fort Wellington Region Five, where the training complex is located, Ally was briefed on its progress and the potential it holds to serve as a vital hub for training and technological advancements. The facility is earmarked to be “a cornerstone in advancing the technological landscape of the region,” a statement from the ministry said.

It is an ambitious venture that is 82 percent completed with the remaining works concentrated on electrical installations, plumbing, painting, and external finishing touches.

Meanwhile, at Region Six, the newly constructed Rose Hall Police Station is at an advanced stage of 95 percent “practical” completion. It is a vital upgrade to the outpost that was previously utilised. This building is equipped to host various departments and facilities critical for efficient law enforcement and community engagement, the statement said.

Upon competition, the police there will have a traffic department, community relations room, case management system, and criminal investigation department. It is expected that the criminal department will be improved and more robust in enhancing law enforcement operations in the region.

Ally expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the facilities and said these developments fortify the region’s security infrastructure.
