With a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA), Khusal Singh became the valedictorian of the University of Guyana’s 2023 graduation class.

He is one of over 3,000 students graduating from the university and he is leaving with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Management. Impressively, he finished his studies in just three years.

But Singh, who gave the valedictory speech at one of the convocation ceremonies on Thursday, made it clear that his journey was not an easy one.

“I moved from selling DVDs in an alley Regent Street out of high school to where I am today,” the valedictorian said.

He added, “… Every endeavour has challenges. I was met with some as I sought to complete my degree in three years.”

There were times when class times clashed, he had multiple assignments or tests to complete and he had to balance his personal and professional commitments.

Still, he said he persevered and his happy to reap the success now.

Singh is a resident of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara (ECD). He attended the Enterprise Primary School and then the Bishop’s High School. He credited his success to many: God, his parents and wife, lecturers and colleagues.

And he acknowledged that many of his colleagues encountered great challenges too. Singh said he was happy that they all managed to “reach the finish line” together.

Not finished with his academic journey yet, the valedictorian said he intends on pursuing both his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in the future.
