Pitamber, Joshi shine at Midway Specialty Care U-14 chess tournament

Sachin Pitamber and Aditi Joshi, both of Queen’s College, excelled at the national Under-14 championship held at Queen’s College on January 27.

Pitamber secured 6.5 points out of a possible seven points to capture the top spot in the Open division, while in the Girl’s division Aditi Joshi won all her games to earn an impressive seven points to take first place in a tournament sponsored by Midway Specialty Care Centre.

Taking the second and third places respectively in the Under 14 Open were the Zhang brothers, Nicholas and Alexander, also of Queen’s College.

Winner of the Girls’ Under-12 Kataleya Sam, who advanced to the Under-14 tournaments, held her own to earn the second position; Saura Ruplall won the third spot and also medalled in the Under-12 Girls’ tournament.

The Guyana Chess Federation gave acknowledgements to the Best Open Under-12 player Aquilani Swaminadha and Best Girls Under-12 player Kataleya Sam, Best Open Under-10 player Vir Narine and Best Girls Under-10 player Saura Ruplall.

The tournament concluded with a short prize giving ceremony courtesy of Midway Specialty Care Center, with the winners in each division receiving trophies and medals for their outstanding performance.

The Federation thanked the organisers and committee members for their invaluable efforts in supervising the season of tournaments.
