Rape convict Akeem Wong who escaped from prison and is the main suspect in the brutal murders of David Gomes and his 75-year-old mother Elizabeth Gomes, was shot and killed on Sunday.
His death comes one month after he escaped from the Mazaruni Prison in Region Seven and just over a week after the murders.
Information reaching the News Room indicates that Wong was shot and killed at Goat Creek along the Essequibo River by members of the Joint Services.
While the incident was confirmed by a high-ranking police source, details remain sketchy.
It is believed that Wong was hiding out in the area, which consists of multiple trails and a joint services team was put together to pursue him following the Saxacalli murders.
Wong escaped from the Mazaruni Prison in Region Seven, on February 14. He was serving a 15-year-sentence for rape.
Last week, Police Sergeant Alex Vaughn, who was part of the search party, lost his life after he was accidentally shot by one of his colleagues, a police constable.
