Barker, Kennedy looking to finish strong in GTA Novice Championship

The inaugural Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) Novice Championship is coming to a thrilling conclusion, as only eight matches remain to determine the winners in each of the three categories.

Despite facing some challenges with the weather, the players have shown remarkable resolve, grit and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

The tournament has captivated fans and players alike with intense competition and anticipation for the crowning of the new champions.

Players to look out for:

Immanuel Barker (Men’s Intermediate Novice)- Barker has emerged as the frontrunner in this category with his consistent and strong performances. As the competition nears its end, Barker is in a prime position to clinch the title.

Tisel Patterson (Ladies’ Beginner Novice)- After an impressive comeback in her opening match, Patterson remains undefeated with a perfect 3-0 record in round-robin play. Only one match stands between her and the title.

Osafa Dos Santos and Mark Clarke (Men’s Beginner Novice)- Dos Santos and Clarke are the top contenders in the Men’s Beginner Novice category. Dos Santos remains undefeated with a perfect 4-0 record, while Clarke has also impressed with three wins in three matches. The stage is set for these two players on Friday, where only one will emerge the title holder in a winner-takes-all match.

Justine Kennedy (Ladies’ Beginner Novice). Despite squandering four match points in her opening match against Tisel Patterson, Kennedy bounced back and dominated her last two matches, only dropping a total of three games. A win today will secure her the runner-up position in the championship.
