Three employees of the Dr. Balwant Singh Hospital were placed before the court on Monday and charged with embezzlement. The employees are accused of stealing millions of dollars from the private hospital between February 2024 and December 2024.
Those charged are: Shivannie Guyadeen, a 23-year-old from Belle West, Canal No. 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara; Kimberly Meenawattie Prasad, a 21-year-old from Foulis Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara; and Randy Persaud, a 23-year-old resident of La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
The trio appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Guyadeen is accused of stealing $14.3 million. She pleaded not guilty and was placed on $500,000 bail.
Prasad also pleaded not guilty after being accused of stealing $1, 070, 000. She was granted $250,000 bail.
Persaud was granted $75,000 bail after he was accused of stealing $180,000 from the hospital.
The case was adjourned to January 27, 2025 for statements.
Additionally, Persaud and Guyadeen were also charged jointly for stealing $234,000 on March 28, 2024.
They were not required to plea to this charge and were placed on $75,000 bail each. This matter was also adjourned to January 27, 2024 for statements.
