Mother of three charged with possession of narcotics

A mother of three appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s court before Magistrate Marissa Mettleholzer to answer to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

 

Elverene Bourne, age 35, a self employed mother of three, of lot 265 Chesney Squatting Area pleaded not guilty to the charge.

 

Bail was objected by Prosecutor Godfrey Playter on the grounds of the nature and prevalence of the offence and the fact that no special reason was advanced for bail to be granted.

 

As a result Bourne was remanded to prison until October 14, 2016 when she will stand trial.

 

The court heard that on September 10, 2016 the mother of three was arrested for being in possession of a quantity of marijuana.

 

The discovery was made after the police; acting on information went to Bourne’s home and conducted a search in her presence, when a container containing several small parcels of the illegal substance was found.

 

The substance weighed some 450 grams.

 

She was arrested and later charged for possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking on September 13, 2016.
