Money changer shot while making purchase at fast food outlet

A man was this afternoon shot to the abdomen by an unknown person while he was making a purchase at Popeyes on Water Street, Stabroek, Georgetown.

 

The injured man has been identified as 32-year-old Vishwanauth Nowbatt of 425 ‘C, Field Sophia.

Nowbatt was shot at about 16:00 hours on Sunday, November 07,2016, by two identifiable African males, one armed with a hand gun.

 

According to information reaching the News Room, the victim was sitting inside of the fast food outlet when the suspects approached him and demanded money. The victim refused and one of the suspects drew a firearm from his waist and discharged a round in his direction, hitting him in the left side abdomen. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public hospital and is currently undergoing surgery.

 

Police have questioned several persons in the busy area and is making efforts to get access to the security footage on buildings in the area to assist with their investigation as it is unclear what led to the shooting.

 

Deputy Commander of ‘A’ Division, Calvin Brutus told the News Room that no suspect has been arrested as yet. Investigations are continuing.
