Cop hospitalised after crashing into fence

Commandant of the Felix Austin Police College, who is currently on Annual Vacation Leave (AVL), Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, is currently warded at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition. Cop hospitalised after crashing into a fence.

A police statement noted that at about 10:30hrs this morning, the Officer was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the Diamond Public Road in the vicinity of the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), when two pedestrians suddenly crossed the road.

Police said the cop took evasive action, veered further west to avoid a collision and crashed his motor jeep PNN 2849 into a fence. The pedestrians escaped unhurt.

The Superintendent was rushed to the East Demerara Regional Hospital where he received medical attention and was later transferred to the aforementioned institution.

This afternoon, a team of Senior Officers led by Second-in-Command of the Force’s Administration, Assistant Commissioner Maxine Graham, DSM and included the Force Welfare Officer, Assistant Superintendent Jewel Sullivan and Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, visited the Officer and wished him a speedy recovery on behalf of Police Commissioner (ag) Mr. David Ramnarine, DSM and Other Ranks of the Force.
