The police in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are investigating the discovery of human remains, suspected to be a female.
According to reports, the discovery of a human skull and bones, clad in only a brassier, was discovered at about 13:00hrs on Sunday last at Thomas Island, Peruni River, by a security guard employed by a mining company.
The matter was reported to the police on Tuesday.
Initial enquiries are that the man was heading to an internet Café when he stumbled on the remains.
News Room understands that vultures have eaten most of the victim’s flesh and as such, it was concluded that the body has been at the location for several weeks before it was found.
Police said a check was made in the area to find out whether anyone was missing but no one has since come forward to file such a report.
A post-mortem is scheduled for next week to determine the cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing.
