63 beach murders: Second victim identified as worker

The bound and tortured body of the second victim who was discovered in a decomposed state at the Sunsplash Hotel and Resort was identified as Harry Persaud called “Guana”, of Number 68 Village, Corentyne Berbice. He is said to be in his late seventies and is the caretaker of the property.

Relatives of the man ventured to the Bailey’s Funeral Home, in Region 5 where his brother positively identify the remains via the clothes he was wearing and a mark on his abdomen.

According to a relative, they became alarmed after seeing the news and knowing that the elderly man works at the hotel and was not seen or heard from in the past few days.

The building in which the bodies were discovered

Persaud’s body was discovered with his hands tied behind his back to a post on the balcony located on the second flat of the building. His foot from the ankle down was completely severed and was missing from the scene.

Meanwhile, the owner of the hotel Vivekanand Narpattty a Canadian citizen was found a short distance away, two toes from his left foot were chopped off, however one was found closeby while the other was not seen.

Documents were also found scattered around the house while several sections of the house were ransacked.

Investigators are currently pursuing the motive behind the gruesome killing of the men. Thus far, no arrest has been made.

The seventy-one-year-old Canadian citizen arrived in Guyana on December 19 for vacation and during that time he had plans to renovate the property with the intention of him and his wife moving back to Guyana.
