A young Essequibo man is feared dead after he disappeared while he and other family members were mooring a boat during a family outing to Hamburg Beach on Sunday, Police reported.

The missing man has been identified as Umal Jaggernauth, 25, of Spring Garden, Essequibo Coast.

Jaggernauth and about 25 of his family members left home at about noon for Hamburg Beach in the Essequibo River.

On arrival at the said beach, Police said most of the family members exited the wooden boat, leaving Jaggernauth and his uncle Randy to moor the boat.

“After they finished mooring the boat, Jaggernauth and his uncle began to swim to shore but only Randy reached to shore; the victim didn’t, and was nowhere in sight,” Police stated.

The other family members were alerted and later went in search for Jaggernauth but they were unable to locate his body which remains missing.

The search for Jaggernauth continues.
