Relatives are searching for the body of 15-year-old Adyemi Azeez, a student of the Abram Zuil Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast, who allegedly drowned on Thursday during an outing with friends at the Onderneeming beach.
According to a police report, the teenager and some of his friends were at the house of another 15-year-old student, where they cooked and relaxed for a bit.
At about 13:00hrs, they left for the Onderneeming beach where Azeez and three friends went into the water, which the friends said “was pulling heavily.”
After realising their plight, Azeez and his friends in the water started to scream for help. The students, who were not in the water, scrambled to assist their friends and managed to pull three of them to safety. However, Azeez reportedly went under and did not resurface.
The matter was reported and police ranks visited the scene. A search party was formed, but has so far turned up unsuccessful.
